Whenever you enter a hotel, office, salon or some other institution, the first thing that you’re going to see is the reception desk. Because of this, its design is very important to ensure that visitors have a good first impression of the company. But what is considered “good design” when it comes to desks? Here we have shared 5 of our favourite creative ideas:
▪ Stone Block
Whether you supply marble countertops for kitchens and bathrooms or stone products for use outdoors, using a block of stone as your desk is an ideal choice. Because this would be an expensive (and not to mention heavy) exercise, you could always invest in a standard desk and have it covered in thin sheets of stone for a similar look.
▪ Book Stacks
Whether you’re a library or a bookstore, a stack of books could be just the modern reception desk you’ve been searching for. Place the books behind glass with a glass counter to ensure that they’re protected against damage. Choose to display the books spine outwards so that you can see the titles or display them pages outward for a creative look.
▪ Luggage
If you’re involved with the travel industry, you could craft a desk out of some old luggage. Stack up some suitcases in a creative pattern with a frame either side to hold them all in place. Some track lighting will ensure that visitors are under no illusions as to what the objects are. This can create a homely and somewhat vintage feel.
▪ Freeform Plastic
Have you considered that you could have some plastic formed into a shape that suits the type of company you run? If you’re in fashion, for example, choose a shade that matches the rest of the space and have it formed into a piece of fabric with strategic creases. It may not be immediately obvious to visitors, but it’ll just work.
▪ Wine Barrel
Whether you’re a winery or a bar, you could keep the alcohol vibe going by turning your reception desk into a lookalike wine barrel. Think planks running vertically with metal bands wrapped horizontally at regular intervals. Place either a timber or a neutral stone counter on the top and you’re ready to start serving drinks.
Nowadays, you can find all sorts of unusual and creative modern reception desk designs. They can vary in shape, style, material and colour. We hope that the ideas we shared above have given you plenty to consider when it comes to the overall design of your reception. Just remember that the space needs to be welcoming and inviting for that great first impression.
